AAP Says "Nothing Today" In Row Over Delhi Civic Body Panel Poll

**AAP Refuses to Participate in Delhi Civic Body Panel Poll, Claims Election is "Unconstitutional"** The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi's ruling party, has announced that it will not participate in the election to fill the sixth seat in the Standing Committee of the national capital's civic body. The election was scheduled to take place on Friday at 1 pm, but the AAP has claimed that the election is "unconstitutional" and "illegal". According to Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister, Mayor Shelly Oberoi had adjourned the House till October 5, which means that there are no proceedings scheduled for today. Sisodia stated, "There is nothing today".
The AAP's decision not to participate in the election comes after a bitter dispute between the party and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena. The Lieutenant Governor had insisted that the election be held at 10 pm on Thursday, but the AAP refused, citing that the late-night vote was called at an hour's notice. Arvind Kejriwal, who had resigned as Chief Minister after getting bail in the alleged liquor policy scam case, said, "It is clearly written... only the Mayor has the right to call a sitting of the House... LG or Commissioner cannot". He also stated that the Mayor had written a letter to the Commissioner calling the elections to be held today "unconstitutional and illegal". The election of a single member is the latest in a long line of disputes between the AAP and the Lieutenant Governor. The AAP has alleged that the order for the election was an attempt to break the tie in the BJP's favor. The BJP has demanded that the seat be filled as per the Supreme Court's direction and has warned that it will file a contempt petition against the party and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The MCD Standing Committee takes most of its financial decisions, and the appointment of a sixth member could tip the balance in the BJP's favor. The AAP currently has three members and the BJP has two. The vacancy was created after the BJP's Kamaljeet Sehrawat quit, who had been elected to the Lok Sabha from the West Delhi seat in the April-June election. The AAP's refusal to participate in the election has raised questions about the legitimacy of the electoral process and the role of the Lieutenant Governor in the civic body. The dispute highlights the ongoing power struggle between the AAP and the BJP in Delhi, which has been a major point of contention in recent months.
